There are several treatments available for alcoholism, but you need to reach out for help first.
If you need help, please call 1-800-ALCOHOL
The type of treatment that you will receive will depend on the severity of your alcoholism.
Oftentimes detoxification or “detox” is necessary. This process allows you to get the alcohol out of your system in a safe way while you receive help for any withdrawal symptoms that might occur.
Additional treatments may include medications which will help prevent a relapse.
Also, counseling, group therapy, and other group sessions should be a part of the psychological treatment of the disease.
There are many places to seek treatment; you can call 1-800-ALCOHOL for referrals if you are in the United States.
You can also check your phone book, the Internet, and inquire at local hospitals.
But please remember that if you are an alcoholic you MUST get treatment.
Period.
You have a disease and cannot treat yourself.
Get help now.
Take care,
