Alcoholism has numerous negative effects on alcoholics, their families, and society.
The greatest negative effect that alcoholism can have on anyone is death.
When alcoholics drinks an extreme amount at any time they can die from alcohol poisoning…
…or may die because they choke on their own vomit.
No, there is nothing pretty about alcoholism.
And each year, more that 100,000 Americans die of alcohol-related causes.
Alcoholism destroys brain cells. Every time alcoholics drink, they permanently destroy a part of their brain.
Alcoholism damages the nervous system.
ALCOHOLISM DESTROYS LIVES.
Does any of this surprise you?
It shouldn’t.
Alcohol is a drug and a toxin.
Alcoholism can cause innumerable additional problems, including:
- Cirrhosis of the liver
- Cardiovascular disease
- Stroke
- Cardiac arrest
- Cancer, particularly cancer of the liver, colon, larynx and esophagus
- Malnutrition
- Chronic inflammation of the stomach (gastritis) and chronic inflammation of the digestive tract
- Ulcers
- Anemia
- Damage to an unborn child
- Impaired motor ability
- Impaired cognitive ability
- Impaired judgment
- Criminal behavior
- DUI arrest
- Killing innocent people while drinking and driving
- Killing yourself while drinking and driving
- Marital problems
- Violent mood swings
- Domestic violence
- Rape
- Child abuse
- Job problems
- School problems
- Financial problems
- Divorce
- Loss of friends
- Loss of self-esteem
- Loss of self-confidence
- Suicidal thoughts
- Suicide
The effects of alcoholism are all bad.
There is not one positive effect.
Period.
And that is why alcoholics need immediate treatment to for their disease.
